Michael C. O’Connor, Jr., MD, is a thoracic surgeon at Boston Medical Center (BMC), Boston Medical Center – Brighton (BMC Brighton), and Boston Medical Center – South (BMC South) in Brockton, Massachusetts. Dr. O’Connor earned his medical degree from the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra University/Northwell in Uniondale, New York, and completed his general surgery residency training at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago, and subsequently completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Rush University Medical Center.

Dr. O’Connor’s clinical expertise encompasses cardiothoracic and general surgery, with a focus on complex procedures such as esophageal perforation management and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor surgery. His research contributions include a commentary on tumor biology in the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and a chapter on the middle mediastinum in Sabiston and Spencer Surgery of the Chest. He has presented at regional conferences on topics ranging from metastatic carcinoid to abdominal compartment syndrome, showcasing his breadth of surgical knowledge.

Dr. O’Connor is also an engaged educator who mentors medical students and residents and guides projects presented at venues like the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
