Dr. Sankalp Sehgal, MD is a Clinical Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at Boston University (BU) Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, and the Vice Chief of Anesthesiology at Boston Medical Center (BMC) – Brighton, Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia and Perioperative Echocardiography. Dr. Sehgal oversees the clinical operations at all anesthetizing sites at BMC Brighton, including operating rooms, catheterization lab, cardiac electrophysiology lab, endoscopy suite and radiology. His role encompasses workflow optimization, workforce management and resource allocation, while maintaining interdepartmental collaboration to ensure smooth clinical operations. He supports the department’s administrative function and educational mission, ensuring the highest standards of patient-centered clinical care and patient safety. Dr. Sehgal is a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and the National Board of Echocardiography and has broad clinical, academic and leadership expertise. In his prior roles, he has served in various clinical and educational leadership roles at prestigious academic centers, such as the Section Head and Director of perioperative teaching at Weill Cornell Medical College, New York Presbyterian Hospital, as the Associate Vice Chair of Education at Drexel University School of Medicine and as the Section Chief of anesthesia for Cardiac EP lab at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Sehgal’s academic and research interests in the field of cardiovascular anesthesia and echocardiography have led to numerous contributions including multiple original studies and clinical trials published in high-impact journals. His research work on perioperative outcomes after Cardiovascular Surgery and advanced echocardiography imaging for Structural Heart Diseases has been recognized with several distinguished institutional and organizational awards. He has served in various committees within the anesthesia society and teaches at national and international courses.
