About
Stephen P. Wood, DMSc, ACNP is an emergency medicine and critical care nurse practitioner at Boston Medical Center – South with over 16 years of clinical experience. Dr. Wood focuses on emergency medicine, critical care, toxicology, and envenomation, bringing extensive frontline and prehospital expertise to the care of acutely ill and injured patients.
Dr. Wood has more than 35 years of experience in emergency medical services, including nine years as a flight paramedic. He specializes in toxicology and envenomation and completed a three-year Bioethics Fellowship at Harvard Medical School, as well as a five-year visiting fellowship in bioethics at Harvard Law School. In addition to his clinical role, he remains active as a paramedic for SWAT and a regional marine and dive unit. He previously served as Associate Director of the Beth Israel Deaconess Disaster Medicine Fellowship and has contributed to humanitarian efforts through on-the-ground and telemedicine work supporting an orphanage in Haiti. His research interests include neurobehavior and magic. Dr. Wood has received numerous honors, including the Honor Your Caregiver Award from The Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare, the September 11th Award from the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office, special recognition for humanitarian efforts from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, and Wilderness and Expedition Medicine Person of the Year.
