New Names and What You Need to Know
What names have changed?
BMC Health System announced on May 1st:
- Good Samaritan Medical Center is now Boston Medical Center – South (BMC South).
- St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center is now Boston Medical Center – Brighton (BMC Brighton).
- St. Elizabeth’s and Good Samaritan’s associated offsite physician practices will transition to BMC Health.
Will I still be able to see my doctor?
Yes, you can continue seeing your current care team without any interruption.
Will my current or upcoming appointments be affected?
No, all scheduled appointments and treatments will proceed as planned. There is no need to reschedule or reconfirm your appointments due to the name change.
Can I now go to any BMC Health System hospital location?
At this time, we ask that you please continue to work with your provider(s) to determine the best location for your care.
Do I need to transfer or request new medical records?
No. All medical records are securely maintained and unaffected by the name change. There is no current need to transfer or request new records.
Do these changes affect billing or insurance processes in any way?
The new names should not impact billing or insurance processes. You may continue to see references to the old hospital and practice names on billing statements during the transition period. If you have questions about your bill, our billing office is happy to assist:
- For BMC Brighton and BMC South, call: 888-502-6243
- For BMC Health practice locations, call: 888-502-7086
Why make these name and logo changes?
We are creating a shared identity across all BMC Health System hospitals that stands for clinical excellence, trust, and compassionate patient care. The legacies of Good Samaritan and St. Elizabeth’s — a combined history of more than two centuries — are foundations on which we’re building a stronger, unified, mission-driven future.
What is the timeline for these changes?
Starting May 1st and over the next weeks and months, the new names and logos will be updated on digital platforms and physical materials such as websites, signs, stationery, forms, and many other items across BMC Brighton and BMC South and associated BMC Health practices. During this period as we transition fully to the new name and logo, you will see both old and new names or logos being used.
With the names changing, are you still considered a Catholic institution?
While this transition does include a shift from our hospitals’ affiliation from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston, we continue to respect the role of faith in healing and will provide interfaith spiritual support, which includes retaining Catholic Chaplains and Catholic services.
Thank you for choosing to receive your care from BMC Health System. We are honored to continue caring for you and your family under our new names. Thank you for your continued trust and support!
