Community Health Needs Assessment

BMC Brighton is proud to share our inaugural Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA), a comprehensive evaluation of the health needs and strengths of Boston’s communities.

In 2025, BMC Health System worked with other members of the Boston Community Health Collaborative to conduct a comprehensive Community Health Needs Assessment (PDF). The Collaborative is a partnership of Boston health institutions, the Boston Public Health Commission, and community organizations working to improve the health and wellbeing of Boston residents. BMC Brighton joined the Collaborative in 2026.

The resulting joint Boston Community Health Needs Assessment report, or CHNA, identifies community health needs, assets, resources, and strategies to support the health and wellbeing of all Boston residents.

Key Findings

Key community needs and challenges across Boston that emerged from the 2025 CHNA include:

  • Housing affordability
  • Mental health and substance use
  • Economic insecurity
  • Access to affordable and healthy food
  • Climate change
  • Access to health care

Allston and Brighton

In addition to the Boston Community Health Collaborative’s CHNA which focuses on Boston as a whole, we have included a short supplement with additional insights from the Allston and Brighton neighborhoods where the largest number of BMC Brighton patients reside within the service area (city of Boston).

This supplement highlights the unique health concerns of a community with diverse needs and populations—from students who attend local colleges to young professionals and multigenerational families that collectively make up the fabric of our community.

Acknowledgments

We extend our sincere gratitude to all community members, partners, and organizations who contributed their time, perspectives, and expertise to this assessment.
