Partial Hospitalization Program
Short-Term Intensive Support for Psychiatric Recovery in a Structured Therapeutic Setting
The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) at Boston Medical Center – Brighton is a short-term intensive treatment for adults that provides support for psychiatric recovery in a structured therapeutic setting. Our primary goal is to improve your level of functioning and reduce symptoms to prevent relapse or hospitalization and help you get back to your daily life.
Patient Information
We treat adults ages 18 years and older who have a psychiatric diagnosis that impairs their daily level of functioning. This might include:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Bipolar disorder
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Patients can be referred by their current provider or a local emergency room to help with stabilization that does not require an inpatient stay, or they can be referred from an inpatient facility, as part of a plan to help them transition back to their home and community.
Our group sessions contain education on mental health symptoms, skills training, and identification of symptom triggers. Topics may include:
- Cognitive therapy
- Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) skills
- Goal-setting
- Interpersonal relationship work
- Mindfulness techniques
- Relapse prevention techniques for mental health symptoms, stress, and anxiety
- Self-esteem and empowerment
- Sensory integration
- Stress management techniques
- Time-management techniques
- Weekend planning
We also prescribe medication after an evaluation with our program prescriber.
We do not dispense medication or do injections.
