Overview and Welcome
Welcome to the Boston Medical Center – South (BMC South) Track of the Boston Medical Center – Brighton Internal Medicine Residency Program.
We are excited to introduce a new training track within BMC Brighton’s Internal Medicine Residency Program. This new track was created in September 2024 after the closure of Carney Hospital in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, and since that time it has continued to attract top-tier candidates.
Residents in the BMC South track primarily rotate at BMC South in Brockton, Massachusetts, where they engage in foundational inpatient training through core rotations on general medicine wards and in the medical intensive care unit, complemented by select consult experiences in a range of medical subspecialties.
Additional inpatient experiences take place at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, and at BMC Brighton. Ambulatory rotations take place in primary care and medical subspecialty clinics located in Dorchester, Quincy, and Brockton.
This track offers residents a rich and diverse educational experience across multiple clinical sites. In addition to the onsite learning at BMC South, residents actively engage in the comprehensive educational curriculum based at the BMC Brighton campus, either in person or virtually.
We follow a “4+2” block scheduling model that separates inpatient and outpatient responsibilities. This structure enhances residents’ ability to focus on continuity clinic without conflicts from inpatient duties, helping them build both confidence and competence in outpatient care. Residents gain valuable experience by providing longitudinal care in community-based primary care practices and by deepening their understanding of outpatient subspecialty medicine.
At the completion of their training, our residents secure exciting and diverse career opportunities both in Boston and across the country.
Thank you for your interest in our program. We look forward to sharing more about this new track with you. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.
