Welcome to the pharmacy residency program at Boston Medical Center – Brighton. Our programs, which offer a professional environment, dedicated leadership and teaching, and cutting-edge pharmacotherapy, are designed to provide our trainees with a wide range of learning opportunities that build critical thinking and enable them to become the next generation of pharmacy leaders.
PGY-1 Program
The PGY-1 pharmacy residency program provides a structured framework in which residents are equipped to succeed in a variety of settings, including PGY-2 training, fellowship, or clinical practice.
PGY-2 (Infectious Disease) Program
The PGY-2 (ID) pharmacy residency program furthers residents’ development as infectious disease (ID) experts. Our goal is to empower residents to function independently as leaders, educators, and researchers who will serve as lifelong advocates for stewardship and ID services.

BMC Brighton is located in the Brighton neighborhood of Boston. We are a 291-bed community medical center within an academic teaching environment.
With robust postgraduate programs including anesthesiology, internal medicine, psychiatry, and surgery, you will find an environment of continued learning and collaboration. PGY-1 Curriculum Details
The PGY-1 pharmacy residency program at BMC Brighton provides a structured framework in which residents are equipped to succeed in a variety of settings, including PGY-2 training, fellowship, or clinical practice.
Our goal is to develop critical thinkers and clinical pharmacy leaders with the skills to adapt to ever-evolving healthcare environments.
The PGY-1 program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
The one-year program is designed to develop skills and competencies in pharmaceutical care. The resident will practice in a collaborative environment with extensive responsibilities, including clinical and didactic teaching as well as involvement in all aspects of clinical pharmacy services.
Three positions are available:
- Two national positions (United States citizens, green card holders, or those with valid OPT status):

PGY-2 (ID) Curriculum Details
PGY-2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by incorporating accumulated experience and knowledge into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY-2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.
Our PGY-2 (ID) program builds on the PGY-1 experience in furthering residents’ development specifically as academic and infectious disease (ID) pharmacy specialists who will excel as clinicians, educators, researchers, and/or academic scholars.
The PGY-2 infectious disease pharmacy residency program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
The one-year program is designed to provide residents with the opportunity to develop their clinical skills in preparation for comprehensive practice as infectious disease clinical pharmacy specialists.
Residents completing the program will be competent and confident in management of adult patients with infectious diseases. Each resident will have the opportunity to learn, establish, and perform evidence-based antimicrobial stewardship strategies to optimize antibiotic use throughout the hospital.

Application Process and Timeline
Eligibility
All applicants to the BMC Brighton Pharmacy Residency (PGY-1) must:
- Hold a PharmD degree from a school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)
- Be licensed or eligible for licensure by July 1
- Be available to begin on July 1 for a 52-week appointment
Additionally, applicants to the BMC Brighton Pharmacy PGY-2 (ID) Residency must:
- Have completed an ASHP-accredited PGY-1 program, or hold candidate status
International Applicants
In addition to the above requirements, international applicants must have completed a pharmacy education or international training program from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) or be part of a MCPHS affiliate agreement.
How to Apply
Residency candidates should complete an electronic residency application using the ASHP’s Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS), which will include:
- Letter of intent
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- Pharmacy school transcripts
- Three (3) letters of recommendation (PGY-1 candidates should include at least one letter from a faculty member and one from an employer)
The application deadline is January 4, 2027.
Interviews will be completed in February.
