Pulmonary/Critical Care Fellowship Research
Boston Medical Center - Brighton
Research and scholarly activity are essential components of our fellowship. Fellows receive the tools, mentorship, and dedicated time needed to design meaningful projects, critically appraise the medical literature, and communicate their findings effectively in both academic and clinical settings.
Structured Research Curriculum
During the second and third years, fellows are provided with protected time and close mentorship to pursue scholarly projects in clinical, translational, or educational research.
Our fellows participate in the Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) Graduate Program Summer Institute—a four-week course tailored for professionals with advanced biomedical training.
By the end of the course, fellows develop a testable hypothesis, design a research protocol, and present a formal proposal for peer and faculty feedback.
Mentorship and Scholarly Support
Each fellow is paired with a dedicated faculty mentor who provides guidance throughout the research process—from study design and data analysis to abstract preparation and manuscript writing.
Fellows also benefit from collaboration with Tufts University faculty, statisticians, and institutional review board (IRB) resources, ensuring a supportive structure for high-quality, ethical research.
Fellows are encouraged and supported to share their work at regional, national, and international conferences, including:
- American Thoracic Society (ATS) International Conference
- American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) Annual Meeting
