Overview and Welcome Note from the Program Director

Claudia Nader, MD, Program Director, BMC Brighton Internal Medicine Residency Program
Welcome to the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Boston Medical Center – Brighton. We are located in the Brighton neighborhood of Boston and are close to all of the benefits this world-class city has to offer. We have a long and proud tradition of graduate medical education dating back to 1952 and pride ourselves on the strength of our clinical training and the success of our graduates. Our goal is to provide our physicians-in-training with the exposure to a wide range of pathology while learning from an outstanding faculty in an atmosphere of team-based approach, collegiality, and mutual respect. We feel this combination makes BMC Brighton a unique and wonderful place to train and work.
BMC Brighton has become a major teaching affiliate of Boston University’s Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and has continued teaching affiliation with Tufts University School of Medicine, allowing our residents to be actively involved in the teaching of medical students who rotate at the hospital.
Our inpatient rotations provide coverage in a geographic model to help improve interdisciplinary teamwork. We offer a “4+2” block schedule model to avoid conflict between the residents’ continuity clinic and their inpatient responsibilities. This model enhances the ability of the program to allow residents to feel more comfortable practicing in an outpatient setting. Residents build up clinical skills by providing continuity of care at hospital-based and community-based primary care practices. They also strengthen their clinical experience pertaining to the outpatient aspect of each Internal Medicine subspecialty.
In addition to providing an educational experience that will prepare our residents for a career in primary care and hospital medicine, we have a strong record of matching our residents to outstanding subspecialty fellowships. We provide an academic environment that promotes scholarly activities and a mentoring and advocacy program that scaffolds our residents to become highly successful in their subspecialty of choice.
We provide a well-structured quality improvement curriculum that allows our trainees to become increasingly conversant in quality improvement projects, promote patient safety, and enhance quality of care. We have a robust academic enrichment program that focuses on self-directed learning based on individual need for enrichment in internal medicine and the subspecialties.
We strongly attend to the physical and psychological wellbeing of our residents and have a health and wellness program that promotes resiliency and work–life balance.
At the completion of their training, our residents find multiple and very exciting job opportunities not only at BMC Brighton, but also in Massachusetts and other states.
We hope that this information will provide you with an overview of our residency program and our commitment to medical education and excellence. If you need any further information, please contact Program Coordinator Susan Lacroix at susan.lacroix@bmc.org.
Sincerely,
Claudia Nader, MD
