PGY-2 (ID) Overview and Application Information
Thank you for your interest in the postgraduate Year II Infectious Disease (PGY-2 ID) Pharmacy Residency Program at Boston Medical Center – Brighton (BMC Brighton). We are devoted to helping you—not just to survive residency, but to truly succeed in this journey.
We have designed a program that allows you to thrive as a future academic and infectious disease pharmacy specialist, who will excel as a clinician, educator, researcher, and/or academic scholar, so that you are poised to become a leader in your chosen area.
With the guidance of our outstanding preceptors and dedicated research time, you will have the opportunity to complete and present research or scholarly projects.
The PGY-2 Infectious Disease Pharmacy Residency Program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). The 52-week program is designed to provide residents with the opportunity to develop their clinical skills in preparation for comprehensive practice as infectious disease clinical pharmacy specialists.
Residents completing the program will be competent and confident in management of adult patients with infectious diseases. Each resident will have the opportunity to learn, establish, and perform evidence-based antimicrobial stewardship strategies to optimize antibiotic use throughout the hospital.
Two positions are available:
- One national position (United States citizens, Green Card holders, or those with valid OPT status): NMS code 612355
- One international position (Saudi Arabia or Kuwait candidates who have a government-sponsored scholarship): NMS code 612390
Program Purpose
The PGY2-ID Pharmacy Residency Program builds on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY-1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY-2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY-2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.
The PGY-2 Infectious Disease Pharmacy Residency Program at BMC Brighton builds on the PGY-1 experience in furthering residents’ development as infectious disease experts. Our goal is to empower residents to function independently as leaders, educators, and researchers to serve as lifelong advocates for stewardship and ID services.
