Community Health Needs Assessment

BMC South is proud to share our inaugural Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA), a comprehensive evaluation of the health needs and strengths of BMC South’s communities. The 2026 CHNA identifies community assets, resources, health needs, and strategies to support the health and wellbeing of all residents in BMC South’s service area.

The CHNA serves as a foundational resource for policymakers and community leaders and informs ongoing community health improvement planning, priority setting, program and policy development, and collaboration.

Our CHNA reflects input from over 200 community members and leaders in the Metro South region, as well as analysis of secondary public health data.

Key Findings

Key community needs and challenges across the service area that emerged from the 2026 CHNA include:

  • Behavioral health, mental health, and substance use
  • Access to care
  • Chronic disease and cancer
  • Access to healthy food/food insecurity
  • Housing and economic mobility
  • Maternal and reproductive health

These findings will inform the development of BMC South’s inaugural Community Health Improvement Plan (2026–2029), to be published later this year.

Acknowledgments

We extend our sincere gratitude to all community members, community leaders, partners, and organizations who contributed their time, perspectives, and expertise to this inaugural assessment.
